Attention and Transition

From Deb Jackson, a physical education teacher at New Britton Elementary School in Fishers, Indiana:

"Try this quick and easy way to get your students' attention for easy transition into the next activity. I start by saying, 'Have a seat, take a load off your feet' (clap, clap)... and the kids reply, 'Thank you, don't mind if I do!' My students are great about sitting in a designated spot in the gym by the time I get to the two claps. They are all quiet and looking at me by the time they finish saying, 'I do!' Be creative and sing it, switch it, change it and re-arrange it! These catchy phrases work for me. Hope it works for you."
